In Lift/Drag mode the MFD collects data of Lift and Drag changing AoA and then a grap of Lift, Drag and Lift/Drag is displayed.

This graph is from DeltaGlider in the upper atmosphere, at 24 Mach.

There are several intersting points.

  • At 2 deg there is the maximum for  Lift/Drag. This is the AoA for the best glide path, and with more than 6 is possible to travel a full circle around globe.
  • At 20 deg there is the maximum for lift and a peak for drag, so this is the best AoA to decelerate and to go up.
  • At -10 deg there is the minimum for Lift/Drag, the best angle to lower without loosing speed.
  • At -30 deg the maximum for negative lift. When you have to lower quckly  this is the best angle of attack.
